A short while ago my family and I moved to the coutryside. Sometimes the technique with which the farmers cultivate the land around us amazes me. The last time I had seen farmers make hay for example, was perhaps thirty years ago; quite a slow job at the time which could take all day. The pace with which farmers work nowadays is impressive and the modern equipment they use is top notch. My business partner is the son of a farmer and therefore knows that world even better than I do.
We at Post en Dekker thus have a thing with Dutch agriculture, but that is not the reason why we have chosen for Food & Dairy, Agro-Food systems as one of our four focus markets. A choice, by the way, that has definitely paid off because half of our new clients this year comes from that market. No, the thing is that machine builders for that specific market fit in with the profile of our ideal client. They develop their technology for a worldwide market and build their machines in various variants, focusing on the demands of the different end-users with regard to functionality, capacity, local processing methods and conditions, etc.
Many of those machine builders once started out as local blacksmiths who built machines without any divide between development and production. Over the years, they have become more professional of course, but we can still help them taking another step forward. We do this by making sure they have a proper platform on which they can design their modularly build machines – this way they can separate order engineering from product development and serve each individual client more quickly.
In our private lives we already learned a great deal about this market, but in order to learn even more on a professional level, we have become a member of the NEVAT Platform Agro & Food, which was launched in the spring of 2014. We want to use the platform to share information with fellow suppliers about the market and find out how we, collectively, can be of value to OEM developers such as Lely, known for its milking robot. I am already looking forward to visiting those renowed manifacturers and get a look inside their ‘stable’.
